DR JESSICA HARTUP (OSTEOPATH)
B. App. Sci. Comp. Med., M. Ost.
EFT International Accredited Practitioner
Jessica graduated from RMIT University Melbourne with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Complementary Medicine and a Masters of Osteopathy. She began her career in Australia’s capital, Canberra and then went on to work internationally for 10 years, first in Ireland followed by California USA. Jessica returned to Sydney, Australia in 2020.
In Australia, Osteopaths complete a minimum of five years university training in anatomy, physiology, health sciences, general medical diagnosis, osteopathic philosophy, diagnosis, technique, clinical training & research involving over 2500 hours of training.
Jessica has undertaken extensive post graduate training across the globe, having the privilege of learning from world renowned Osteopaths, particularly in the field of Cranial and Biodynamic Osteopathy. Jessica undertook training in Cranial Osteopathy at the Osteopathic Centre for Children, an Osteopathic research & training centre in San Diego, USA established by Dr Viola Frymann.
During her years in the USA, Jessica also undertook extensive training in Biodynamic Osteopathy with the founder of this curriculum, Dr James Jealous, and prior to this with other faculty teachers in England and Australia, undertaking 8 of the 9 phases to date.
These osteopathic approaches require extensive training in sensitive touch, developing and refining skills required to tune into and support the body's inner therapeutic forces, particularly the nervous system.
Jessica also offers Emotional Freedom Technique services, commonly referred to as EFT or "Tapping". Throughout her practise as an Osteopath, Jessica has often seen the link between pain, tension & illness with underlying stress &/or limiting thought/behavioural patterns. She has found EFT to be a supportive and efficient way of assisting with stress relief, especially in these challenging times, given the fast paced, technological age and changing times we are living in.
Jessica was first introduced to this mind-body method by her Osteopathic Mentor as a student, and later underwent training in Dublin and Sydney to become an EFT International Accredited Practitioner. She has found it to be an invaluable, practical tool for empowering people to better understand, manage and release their body - mind distress.
PHILOSOPHY
"The body is an intelligent and intricate design,
such is Nature." Dr J.K.Hartup
Jessica's wonder of the innate intelligence of the human body began at an early age, when she was captured by a picture detailing the anatomy, the intricacy of the blood vessels, nerves, lymph channels, organs… all interconnected, interwoven, communicating and working as one. She was blown away by the complexity, intricacy and the clear intelligence that was at work under her own skin.
The spine reminded her of a tree with all of the nerve roots and branches of blood vessels, each vessel with its own important task for sustaining and nourishing life, an organ, a muscle, a gland. The intricacy and precision looked like a masterpiece to her, full of a wisdom yet unknown. It is no wonder we continue to discover new insights into health and the human body every day.
The image also had pictures of the herbs and foods that nourished the different tissues and organs of the body, some of which had features that resembled the organ they supported. Jessica would learn years later in herbal medicine this was called the doctrine of signatures...that often plants and herbs have visual clues as to what its medicinal effect may be useful for.
It was clear to her then, that nature and the body are inter-connected. The indwelling intelligent forces operating in nature, are also at work within you, doing their best to adapt and survive in an ever-changing environment.
OSTEOPATHY
"Osteopathy is founded upon, and sustained by,
the laws of Nature."
Dr A.T. Still, Founder of Osteopathy
Jessica was excited to learn of a system of natural healthcare, Osteopathy that had existed for over 100 years, that resonated with her own philosophy. Osteopathy was founded in the late 1800’s by American Doctor, Dr Andrew Taylor Still, who recognised and studied the natural laws and intelligence operating within us.
Grounded in a knowledge of anatomy and physiology, he recognised that any blockage of the vital elements of the body (blood, lymph, nerve) can lead to dis-ease in the body. He discovered that assisting the body to restore circulation and movement, helped in its' ability to heal and adapt. He also recognised the importance of rest, nutrition and clean water, for these equally impact one's health and the ability to recover, adapt and heal.
Dr Still put forth the 4 principles of Osteopathy:
-
every person is a unity of body, mind & spirit
-
body structure (anatomy) & function are inter-related
-
the body has self- healing, regulating, protecting capabilities
-
all of the above is taken into consideration in each consultation as osteopathic treatment is tailored to the individual
"When we take up the principles, we get down to Nature. It is ever-willing, self-caring, self-feeding & self-protecting."
Dr A.T.Still, Founder of Osteopathy
